What Causes Severe Pelvic Cramps While On Norethindrone For Irregular Periods?
My wife had a miscarriage (D&C) on December 7. Her periods have been very irregular since then (4 weeks, then 2 weeks, then 10 days). Her OB/GYN examined her and prescribed Norethindrone to help rebuild her uterine lining and help return her cycles return to normal. She immediately began having severe uterine cramping which has been going on for a week now. We started looking into the drug and are reading that it is used to prevent pregnancy. We are trying to get pregnant, and have been having a lot of difficulty. My wife is 46 and we're running out of time. These different effects of the drug seem to be highly contradictory to one another, and we are concerned about both the immediate effects of the drug (the pain) and the potential long-term effects on her chances of getting pregnant.
As a first line management you can take drugs like Mefenemic acid for pain relief. If symptoms persist, better to consult a gynecologist and get an ultrasound scan to rule out possibilities like pelvic collections and tumors.
