Hello Doctor, I have severe dermatitis or psoriasis on my head. My doctor today has advised me to have oncotrex 10 once a week for 16 weeks. He also mentioned that my wife cannot conceive during this time. I m afraid the way he explained this to me. Could there be other side effects? If yes, pls tell me how careful should I be in taking this tablet. Should I take this tablet or not?
Hi. As per your case history of head psoriasis, my treatment advice is - 1. Don't scratch the lesion as it may worsen the condition. 2. Apply a topical steroid plus salicylic acid lotion like clop-s twice daily on it. 3. Take an antihistamine medication like levocetrizine for itching. 4. Oncotrex contains methotrexate which is an effective medication for psoriasis. It has some side-effects at high doses. But it is safe to take at dose of 10mg per week. So start it for quick recovery.
Thanks. Dr. Harshit bhachech. MBBS, DDVL.
