What Causes Severe Swelling And Pain In Knee?

My mom is 80 years old. Her knee is abnormally large with swelling and very painful for her. It is swollen twice the size of her other knee. What could cause her knee to swell like that? Is it posible that she had broken a bone in her knee and didn t realize it?

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hi
Welcome to healhcaremagic
After going through your query I concluded that mom is having swelling in knee which is likely to be osteoarthritis as it is common in her age. She needs to do her x ray to confirm it. MRI of knee will give more information. Treatment of it is Diacerine, glucosamine and analgesic such as ibuprofen for pain relief. You can discuss with your Doctor about it. Hope your query get answered. If you have any clarification then please don't hesitate to write to us. I will be happy to help you.
Wishing you a good health. Take care.
