What Causes Shaking Of Fingers And Slow Moment In Old Age?

my father is 70 years old. Throughout his life he strained a lot, working hard (doctor himself - anaesthetist). In the last one year he had 4 attacks of transient loss of consciousness (10 mins each). Each of this happened whenever he did not get to rest sufficiently. The doc gave him a high dosage of Fits tablet. I think this further debilitated his health. We went to a Neurologist who advised him to start a mild dose Levera500 - Leveteracetam . Now mindfully taking good rest has not reverted this attack again. His active life has slowed down a LOT. He has become very slow in his movements. I noticed his right thumb finger keeps shivering very mildly. His handwriting is not flowy anymore. Even his hearing ability is lessening. Any thoughts Doctor?

Hi,
Thanks for asking.
Based on your clinical history and query, my opinion is as follows:
1. These are all age related neuronal degeneration changes. Drug would affect the nervous system and additionally it would slow the movements also. He needs to do moderate exercise, good regular sleep and have good family time for improvement.
2. Tremors in finger could be attributed to age and levetiracetam is also known to cause it. However, the tremor is mild and not disturbing, you can continue the treatment.
3. Cocchlear changes due to degeneration in hair cells will reduce the ability to hear. You can try hearing aids for it.

Hope it helps.
Any further queries, happy to help again.
