What Causes Sharp Abdominal Pain And Blood In Stool?

It started with a sharp pain in the lower left abdomen that lasted for about 15 hours. Strained to pass two large stools that night but still felt pain afterwards. The next day, found blood in bowel movements. That night I had eaten quite a bit, especially a large container of spanish peanuts with skin. Blood in stool, occasionally on toilet paper. Some bright red, others maroon. Blood in stool has been mild for about 2 weeks now. Two days on a liquid diet, no blood. But small drops of blood on bigger stool when I started eating more solid food. I have an appt with a specialist in a few weeks. Any advice? What is wrong with me? I feel great otherwise. Once the bleeding had started, no more abdominal pain. No fatigue but I am hungry. No fever or chills. I was taking aspirin daily for years, prescribed by my doctor. I stopped it after the bleeding started. I had a full blood test done about two weeks prior. Everything came out normal - red and white blood cell count normal. I just turned 73 this month.
