What Causes Sharp Pain Between Neck Skin And Windpipe?

I have sharp pain on the front left side of my neck. Its not in the throat, but outside, between skin and wiindpipe. Its doesnt hurt to swallow but its very tender to the touch. I have no other symptoms: fever, rash, sore throat. Which type of Doctor should I go see?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have sharp pain between neck skin and windpipe. Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like strep throat , viral pharyngitis , acid reflux or thyroid problem . I would suggest you to do warm saline gargles several times a day , take ibuprofen or acetaminophen for pain and take anti hisatmine like benadyl twice a days . Consult ENT specialist for proper examination . Doctor may order CT scan or throat swab test and viral culture test . Doctor may prescribe antibiotics like amoxicillin at least for 5 days or antiviral depending upon the diagnosis . Doctor may also refer you to endocrinologist for thyroid problem .
