Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi I keep getting a pain in my rib cage when I sneeze, i wouldn t say it s a sharp pain but feels like something is pushing really hard on my rib cage. It takes a while to go after sneezing and just feels very sore. I ve suffered from costochondritis on several occasions but never had this pain, and it s is only when I sneeze, before it was when I was breathing. I am 26 weeks pregnant so can t take any anti inflammortories. is it just another part of costochondritis? Is there anything else I could do to help it. thanks Charlotte

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement, Dr. Saurabh Gupta's Response
Hello, Thanks for your query.
The pain could be of costochondritis (painful when ribs are pressed), may be relieved by following measure along with the drugs like ibuprofen- 1. Avoiding unnecessary exercise or activities that make the symptoms worse until there is improvement in symptoms, and then return to normal activities only as tolerated. 2. Rib belt along with hot water fomentation helps. 3. You may be given a local anaesthetic and steroid injection in the area that is tender if normal activities become very painful and the pain does not respond to drugs.
As far as outlook of costochondritis is concerned it is usually self limiting and may go away of its own most people will recover fully.
I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query. Take care
