I m 36 weeks and one day pregnant. I lost my mucus plug this afternoon. I started feeling discomfort in my vagina afterwards. Now its like a sharp pain down there. And having stomach pains, nausea, with some contractions. Contractions aren t regular . Is this normal? Is the pain normal
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Since you have lost your mucus plug, you need to be careful & observe your symptoms. Avoid heavy work & stay at rest. Be observant & make sure you feel the foetal movements & the number of times you feel it. In case you feel less foetal movements you should contact your gynae at the earliest.
It looks quite normal, when you feel contractions watch for any spotting or blood coming from the vagina while you pass urine or otherwise, stay observant. This is an indication(bloody show) that your contractions will accelerate & that it's time for you to get admitted. In case, you do not see any spots of blood but your pain & contractions are accelerating, get admitted. You need to stay under observation. Take care
This is not normal. It is the beginning of labour activity. You should immediately talk to your doctor since you are at risk of preterm birth since you are not yet 37 weeks. Seek medical attention immediately.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
