I get sharp pains at base of thumb..down thru wrist.had a X-ray and was diagnosed with arthritis ..I feel it s more bursitis related..I find relief with ice. It comes out of the blue and takes my breath away.i can move my thumb all around and no specific motion riggers the pain. When I touch my thumb and little finger I feel discomfort.. Hi Thank you for asking HCM I have gone through your query. Arthritis also can get relief by ice application. Bursitis can be present along with arthritis also. A consultation with an orthopedic surgeon is well appreciated for this. NSAIDs like ketoprofen orally for short term and local gel of it for application will be helpful. In case of severe pain local corticosteroid injection like triamcinolone will be helpful. Physiotherapy along with this help to improve pain and inflammation. Hope this may help you.
