What Causes Sharp Pain On The Right Side Of The Head Behind The Ear?

My husband for about the last couple of weeks been getting a sharp pain headache on the back right side of my head behind the ear about 1 to 1/12 inch on my scalp. It just suddenly comes on and happens about lately at least 3 times a week and lasts for several hours sometimes all day. He takes 10 mgs Atrovastatin and 2 low dose asprin daily and 2000 mgs of vitamin D3 daily. It is very debilitating and I would like to know what may be causing this and should I be concerned thank you for you assistance. thank you Elaine

Occipital neuralgia for example is a condition that may cause such symptoms.However, to get a correct diagnosis is necessary a medical evaluation and imaging such as MRI of the upper cervical spine.Treatment depends on the diagnosis.
