Hello,
During
menstruation,
prostaglandin level is high, high prostaglandin level triggers spasms in the pelvic floor. Rectum pain is triggered due to the nerve at the back (dorsal
root ganglion) getting activated. To get relief, you are advised to take NSAIDs, naproxen or Ibuprofen, one stat when needed. Taking sitz bath will also give relief. Since your mother and sister have history of
endometriosis you are suggested to maintain healthy weight, do regular exercises.
Avoid taking food that is high in estrogen level as it can cause thickening of the uterine lining. Reduce body fat, manage stress. Avoid alcohol intake. Take healthy diet, high in fiber, low in fat, do not take processed food, control sugar intake. Get clinically examined by a gynecologist, get blood tests and
ultrasonography of uterus done to rule out endometriosis.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
