What Causes Sharp Shooting Pain In Abdomen After Having Food?

I have been having stomach issues for several weeks now. I initially went to a Emergent Care clinic when the pain started. They referred me to a GI specialist. I wasn t able to get in to see the GI specialist for 2 weeks and when I did, after examination they recommended both a colonoscopy & endoscopy which is not scheduled for another couple of weeks. I asked if they were going to give me a scan to rule out anything before the endoscopies and he said he didn t want to subject me to unnecessary radiation if it can be diagnosed with a endoscopy. But that is still several weeks away. I am in a lot of pain, at first it was kind of all over my stomach, then in the center, now localized to the right side. I am not vomiting, but have some acid reflux, gas, and several loose stools and diarrhea each day. The pain is what concerns me as it is sharp shooting and most often right after I eat, but sometimes all the time. After reading some of the symptoms I am concerned about appendicitis. My symptoms started weeks ago. Have they been going on to long to be related to that?

Hi,

What I think of as suggested by your history is you have stomach ulcer or inflammation which is why your pain in increased after food intake. As you already mentioned of booking Endoscopy date, I would suggest using some antacids for pain relief like omeprazole, ranitidine or gaviscon which contains alginates. You also need to avoid spicy foods, painkillers like aspirin, mefenamic acid which can increase the severity of your symptoms. Appendicitis is unlikely as there is no fever and the history is not very typical.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
