Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been waking up for about a week now, shaking all over and shivering like I am cold. (which I am NOT) my heart feels as if it is skipping beats and its hard to breath. I usually stay up over a hour to go back to sleep cause it has worried me. Then I fall back to sleep and wake up again a few hours later doing this same. I was recently told I have low iron and am not sure this could have anything to do with it.
The first step is to see a Cardiologist / Irregular heartbeats need to be DOCUMENTED and analysed by ElectroCardioGram (EKG). Standard ECG records the electrical activity of the heart, for a few seconds. It can detect the arrhythmia occurring during that time only. If the episode occurs randomly or is precipitated by a specific activity like exercise - one needs Holter or event monitor. Anaemia / Anxiety / Alcohol / Tobacco (smoking) / Caffeine (too much tea, coffee, cola) / Fever / Infection / Pain / Stress / Thyroid / Vitamin D, calcium, magnesium / Medicines like Phenylephrine used for ‘cold’; Salbutamol used for asthma and so on - may be responsible.... At times, abnormal nerve paths in the heart (bypass tracts) or disease of the conduction system may be responsible!
Appropriate treatment demands accurate diagnosis Diagnosis needs physician consultation and investigations… Get examined…
