Hi I have not excersized in about 12 years I am 32 years old 5'11" 250#s. I recently joined a Gym to loose some wieght and the first time I did simple exersizes nothing too extreme just some lunges back and forth for about 20 mins. After a while I felt shortness of breath, a slight light headed and with a bit of nausea. I was with the trianer during the entire time. I wanted to know whether this was normal and will things get better before it gets worse. Thanks
Thanks for posting your question on HCM! I appreciate your concern for this exercise induced shortness of breath. Do you smoke? If not this shortness of breath could be due to release of some mediators (leukotrienes) which cause narrowing of the airways during exercise to produce shortness of breath. you are advised to see your doctor for proper checkup to rule out other causes and possible use of Montelukast inhaler for the prevention of exercise induced shortness of breath.
