What Causes Shortness Of Breath And Palpitations During Menopause?

I’ve had a period for 7 weeks. I’m 53 years old and starting menopause. My symptoms are shortness of breath, any activity causes heart to race, heart pounding sensation in my ears that comes and goes. Its hard to have an appetite. Gyno checked me out with ultrasound to ovaries and uterus and everything seems fine. Taking iron supplements daily and b12. I just want to feel better.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

You may experience some emotional problems and problems in focusing or learning. You did not mention if you are obese or not for overweight and fat around the belly is not good. You will have to take healthy diet, diet low in fat and exercise daily. Since your gynecology reports are normal but since you are experiencing palpitations and shortness of breath you should go for a thorough cardiac check up. It is important to rule out any developing coronary artery disease. Please get examined by a cardiologist & get Lipid Function Test, ECG, Stress tests/ Treadmill, Holter if necessary.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr Nupur K
