What Causes Shortness Of Breath And Raised Heart Beats After Standing Up?
My 84 by year old mother was been experiencing a shortness of breath upon standing with a rapid heart rate. As she stands and regains her strength ( just 10 seconds at the most) she feels ok and all the symptoms are gone. I want to take her to the emergency room but she would rather wait to talk to her doctor tomorrow. She was at her cardiologist 3 weeks ago and all was ok. She went to her ENT and he found nothing with her inner ear. Her internist couldn t find anything wrong either. I m lost on what type of doctor I should get her an appointment with. Any suggestions, please?
Hi welcome to hcm First get an ECG and 2D ECHO of her heart to rule any congestive heart failure.Meanwhile check her bloodpressure.generally shortness of breath assosciated with palpitations and chest discomfort may point towards left ventricular failure with pulmonary edema. Also get chest x ray ro look for pulmonary edema. If her BP is normal or >130/90.she needs inj.dytor 20-40mg stat dose and tab.betaloc if her heart rate is high. All these medications should be given only after checking her vitals and ecg. Also have a look on her urine output.consult your cardiologist for expert management. Thankyou
