What Causes Shortness Of Breath When I Cough?

I've had bronchitis for a month now and been to the ER 3 times already this month...I'm literally gasping for air when I cough and get the urge to vomit. They didn't give me any antibiotics to take home. I have an appt with my doctor this friday but I'm scared why am I gasping for air so much.
