What Causes Shortness Of Breath While Climbing Stairs?

So I’m 5’4 and almost 200lbs. I think I have bronchitis going on for 3-4 weeks. I am trying to loose weight and be healthier and decided to climb 5 flights of stairs to the floor I work on. When I reached my floor I had short breath and coughed enough to cause gaging and slight vomiting. Why did that happen?

Acute bronchitis can cause significant respiratory symptoms including severe coughing. Exertion such as climbing the stairs stimulates your respiration, and this can cause your irritated airways to induce severe coughing. Severe coughing increases the pressures in your abdomen because of contraction of your respiratory muscles, and this can lead to vomiting.
Keep in mind however that if you have significant shortness of breath, you should have a chest x-ray done to make sure you don't have pneumonia, which can be a complication of bronchitis.
I hope this provides an explanation to your question.
