Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am wondering if u can answer my question as it becomes noticeable last 2 weeks with my breathing it felt like I have to sigh to breathe and breathe twice and even in my sleep? Waking up and I am 55 years old and the last few years waking up every night for drink every hour should I get myself referred to ENT?
Hello! I read carefully your query and understand your concern.
The symptoms you describe might be due to some conditions that include: -Heart disease can cause difficulty breathing especially during night when you lie down. This diagnosis can be excluded by doing a cardiac check-up that include ECG,Stress test,Heart ultrasound.
-Diabetes (can cause excessive thirst). The diagnosis is excluded by testing Blood sugar. -Gastroesophageal reflux disease which is a condition when the stomach acid moves up into esophagus. Can cause heartburn, acid taste in mouth, dry mouth. The symptoms worse during night when you lie down, can cause breathing difficulty especially during night. The diagnosis is confirmed by upper endoscopy. In this case symptoms are relieved by taking antiacids or PPI drugs such as Pantoprazol twice a day 30 min after meals.
If I were your treating doctor I would first exclude heart disease and then consider other possibilities. I suggest to consult a physician and get examined.
Hope my answer has helped. Take care. Dr.Rovena
