What Causes Shortness Of Breath?

Check up last week indicated sound heart and sound lungs. I have shortness of breath that is severe enough I have to rest when walking up the slight incline of our driveway and worsens when I lie down. My blood pressure is moderately elevated. Awaiting results of blood tests before prescribing medication. Am currently taking atenelol. what are possible causes?

Thanks for your question on HCM. .
Uncontrolled hypertension can be the cause. It is not reflect always in ECG and 2D Echo but this can be the cause.
So consult cardiologist and start antihypertensive drugs as atenolol is not sufficient for you.
Another possibility is low hemoglobin and thyroid problems.
Anemia and thyroid diseases can cause breathlessness on exertion.
So check your hemoglobin level to rule out anemia.
Check your S. TSH to rule out thyroid diseases.
But in my opinion it is the uncontrolled blood pressure which gives you breathlessness.
