What Causes Shortness Of Breathe During Pregnancy?

HI DR



I'm currently 5months pregnant and i get short breaths,some like asthma, and my heatrbeats get a bit faster at times as if im having a panick attack. What could be the cause?? what can i take for this? is my baby at rusk?

Hi,
Thanks for the query.
During pregnancy hemodynamic changes will occur.
This is more evident in second trimester.
This can lead to increased heart rate, palpitations etc symptoms.
Hemodilution can occur during pregnancy and that can lead to anemia.
Anemia can lead breathlessness etc.
So,consult your doctor once and go for hemoglobin estimation.
If needed take iron supplements.
Taking nutritious diet, adequate hydration and sufficient rest is important.
Usually mild anemia may not affect the growth of the baby.
Early correction of anemia is advised.
If needed doctor will advise specific investigations like ECG etc.
