What Causes Skin Irritation On The Back And Legs Despite Taking Benadryl?
Welcome! How can I help with your medical question? Hello there. First let me say I take the flu shot annually. On 11/18/2017 I had a pain on my back just below the shoulder blades. The pain was only noticeable when I coughed and I did feel little flush. On 11/20/2017 the pain between the shoulder blades was gone even while coughing, but on my home from work I noticed what I believe to be hives on both arms. Further inspection on my entire body same type of skin irritations on my back and on my legs. I ve been taking Benadryl with hope it will pass. Its been a week now and not much movement. Is it time for me to see my primary care doctor?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
As per your case history of skin irritation, my treatment advice is:
1. Don't scratch the lesion as it may worsen the condition.
2. Apply a soothing lotion like Calamine lotion on affected region twice daily.
3. Take an antihistamine medication like Levocetirizine twice daily for 7 to 10 days.
4. Other treatment options are oral antibiotics, oral steroid taken only after consulting a dermatologist.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Harshit Bhachech
