What Causes Skin Rashes While On Clarithromycin?

My 16-year-old daughter is taking Clarithromycin for a sinus infection and after 3 doses she is experiencing skin bumps and rashes on her legs and back. Can she take Benedryl to assist and are there any adverse interactions between the two medications?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

It looks like an allergic reaction.
Some advices that I can give to you are:
-Take oral antihistamines daily.
-Use calamine lotion for local relief.
-Take prescribed corticosteroids in case she doesn’t feel better.

Hope my answer was helpful. If you have any other question I’ll be glad to help.
Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi
