Hello, my question may seem trivial but I hope you will answer. I was recently told that skin tags are caused by excessive blood sugar and are actually storage devices for those sugars which couldn t be processed and that there was a strong possibility that I was a candidate for diabetes. Is there truth to that statement? (ooops I didn t know I would be charged to answer such a question)
Skin tag also called acrochordon is a skin growth of unknown etiology. There may be genetic influence. It may be associated with obesity. It may be found in patients of DM and dyslipidemias. But, it is not necessarily found in diabetics always. The growths are fibrous and not the storage of sugar. So, if you have skin tags,it is not necessary that you will have DM...but,it should be ruled out.
I hope you got my answer.
Thanks.
