What Causes Skipped Periods While HPT Is Negative?

on april 2010 i had sex with my partner without condoms. now she has skipped periods from last 50 days, and we are bit tensed and not sure whether she is pregnant or not. we dont want baby right now. we had tested using the pregnancy strip(pregwin) available in the market which says that the result is negative. but we are still tensed about the same.
can you please suggest what can we do now?
