What Causes Slimy Stool That Smells Fishy?
My 1 year old has had a few diapers with slimy (mucus) stool that smelled like bad fish yesterday. Today she came home with a fever. Her school sent home a note that said a child at school had hand, foot and mouth disease. Do any of her symptoms require a doctor visit?

Hi.... Many thanks for consulting with HCM. The description you give suits acute viral diarrhea.. It should settle by itself on zinc supplements & ORS. Hand foot mouth disease suggested by her school requires isolation for 7-10 days along with antiallergics. You should be aware it can cause skin peeling in 4-6 weeks.
