Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi Doc, My son is 4.6 yrs old and he does not eat.Since the age of 1 we are telling him to eat and he keeps the bite in his mouth for so long and asks for water to take it inside. I told this so many times to his peadiatrician but he says its normal that a child is not hungry. He tells us that u would be giving junk food to him like chips and chocolates. But I am telling u that he doesnot eat that also. Very rarely he demands for chips. he likes eggs but in a limit. sometimes he eats normally and I feel relaxed somehow. He says that he is not hungry but still my poor child eats because he knws that he will get weak if he wont eat. His weight is 15-16kgs. He gets ill very soon and has got admitted to hospital thrice in 4 yrs. Now I have changed the doc and he told me to give Liv 52, I started giving that yesterday but no improvement. These days I am really tensed because sometimes he takes 1/2 an hour to eat a Chapati which is O.K to me but these days he is taking 1 hr to eat the same. Doc says that his weight is fine, but it is fine because he is forcefully eating his food, i think he should happily eat his food.Pls tell me should I continue giving him Liv 52 or change the Doc?
Thank you for your mail. If your kid is active and doctor says he is fit and fine you need not to be get worried just try to cultivate good food habits.I also would like to ask you the reason of his hositalizations e.g. dehydration, high grade fever etc. to understand his problem. Most probably it seems the case of poor immunity if it is the reason then you need to give attention to provide him food items which are rich in Vitamin C and other nutrients. I would suggest you to make a journal of food and its quantity along with activities done by him in a day for a week ,it will be helpful to understand his food habits and preferences.Do not push him to eat food.
