What Causes Slow Heartbeats In Fetus?
My daughter is 6 weeks pregnant and had an ultrasound yesterday because she has pretty high hcg levels. I know this is pretty common, but she is also concerned because the babies heartbeat seemed a little slower. This is her 3rd child and she is 31 years old. Since there was a heartbeat I would assume you can rule out a molar pregnancy? I think she may also be concerned about Downes-thanks

It is too early to predict the accuracy of a certain heart rate as at this stage of pregnancy, it is the heart beat and not the rate that matters. Serial serum beta-hCG titres concurrent with repeat sonograms should be done to exclude a co- existing molar pregnancy. Fetal DNA sampling may be done or an anomaly and NT scan may be performed to rule out Down's syndrome. Folates should be taken in dietary form as well as nutritional supplements.
