Good evening and happy new year It s been almost 5 days since I have seen my two month-old boy poop. Is that normal? He had that problem before and I talked my pediatrician and he said to me there is no need to worry. I do believe it s not normal. What should I do? Please help!

Hi Dear,

Understanding your concern. As per your query your infant have symptoms of sluggish bowel movements and viral gastroenteritis.

Need not to worry. You should give diet to child rich in fibres. I would suggest you to avoid eating heavy and spicy , eat small and frequent meals, eat 1-2 banana in a day and take ibuprofen or acetaminophen for pain. If condition doesn't get well then consult gastroenterologist for proper examination. Doctor may order stool test and take history. Doctor may prescribe loperamide , ornidazole along with anti inflammatory medications.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
