i have arthiristis in my hands which started about a year ago. My hands have gone from bad to worse as there and knots and pain. also in the last 6 months my hands swell to the point it feels like they separate from my arms and the way they feel as well it is like having balloms as hands instead of hands. it was and has been so bad in the mornings when i get up it is also very hard to use them. Now it is happening more though out the day as well. i also have Dystonia which has effected a lot of things as well as my hands for a while now. That was going on before the swelling which also caused a great deal of difficulty with my hands along the way. My speach is also effected to the point so many whom don t know me or have they meet me before believe i have been drinking and i am drunk. I don t drink. Thanks for any answers you can help me with. Hello,

Slurred speech is indicative of nervous system disorder (neuropathy). Other conditions can be brain injury, brain tumor, weakness of facial muscles or nerve damage, stoke, Multiple Sclerosis, etc. Since you have arthritis, follow your doctors prescription & treatment. Avoid sedentary life, stay active. Do exercises & take vitamin E supplements so that your joints stay lubricated. For slurring of speech you are suggested not to neglect but get clinically examined by a Neurologist & get Nerve conduction tests, blood tests, imaging tests & nerve biopsy if needed. Take vitamin B6, B12 rich food or supplements. Get treated at the earliest.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
