What Causes Small Flaps Developing Inside My Cheek?
Hi. I have noticed a small flap or tag of skin inside my cheek on the upper right side at the back of my mouth. (next to back tooth) It is around 3mm in length and flaps around if I touch it with my tongue. It has came up in the last day or so and it s really starting to feel weird. I m really worried. Please help me to know what it is and how to get rid of it. Thank you.
As per your complain it may be a tissue hyperplasia (tissue overgrowth) and it happens mostly due to trauma to the oral mucosa due to any of the following reason..
It may be due to cheek bite when the mucosa comes in between the teeth while chewing.. It leads to inflammation in that area leading to overgrowth of tissue in that area..It is called as FIBROMA.
Other reason can be due to sharp edges of tooth causing trauma to the cheek leading to tissue hyperplasia..
I would suggest you to see an ORAL SURGEON and get it evaluated.. He will get it excised ( removed) and furthur the tissue can be sent for biopsy to find the exact nature of growth..
Hope your query is solved..
Thanks and regards.. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora..
