What Causes Small Protrusion Above The Belly Button?
What could be the cause of a small protrusion above my belly button between center and right side of belly button? A bit tender to touch at times. I have had abdominal & pelvic ultrasounds and CT scans and no one has an answer for me other than they found ovarian cysts & fibroids but claim this has nothing to do with it.
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted the history and understood your concerns. Small protrusion above the belly button between center and right side of belly button which is tender and could not be diagnosed by ultrasonography and CT scan can be due to the following reasons: Epigastric hernia. Paraumbilical hernia if this is near an umbilicus. Desmoid tumor if in the rectus sheath. Hernia has a characteristic that it bulges on anything that increase the intraabdominal pressure like coughing and is reducible. This can be done by a simple palpation tests and coughing hard. If the lump is in the rectus sheath that is almost fixed and firm can be due to a classical lump called Desmoid tumor; this needs excision but remembering that this can be recurrent. Lipoma, sebaceous cyst and such lumps can be diagnosed on clinical examination and need excision for the following reasons: You get rid of the problems that is not normal for the body to have it. You get confirmation by histopathological examination.
