What Causes Small Stomach To An Unborn Baby And Will Babe Be Fine?

My daughter is due any day now and has been having some complications with her blood pressure being high started a month ago also has started retaining alot of fluid toward the end of her pregnancy. Her blood pressure is down now. An ultrasound yesterday is showing the babys stomach is to small and he weighs over 6 lbs. What causes the small stomach and will the baby be ok?

Hi, I have gone through your question. There are various causes of small stomach in the fetus like:
1. Esophageal atresia
2. Tracheo- esophageal fistula
3. Decreased swallowing by the fetus due to any genetic disorder affecting the muscular tone , or due to cleft lip or palate.
There is associated increased fluid around the fetus in most of these conditions.
The prognosis of the baby depends upon the condition present and its severity.
I would suggest you to consult a fetal medicine specialist so that a detailed anomaly ultrasound can be done and amniocentesis can be done if required to assess the chromosomal analysis of the fetus.
Further management has to be done accordingly.
