I have a fold of skin that hangs over my body from gaining weight after my Csection many years ago. The skin under it is smelly, blue, red and purple and almost seems weepy. It is itchy and painful, how can I treat it? I am taking amoxicillin, Insulin dependent type 2 diabetic, among other health issues.
General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi, I understand your concern. - The moisture & warmth in the skin folds make them a favorable for growth of candida( yeast),The symptoms itching,red/blue/purple colour of your skin is due to this infection. Scratching makes the skin opened & secondary infection with bacterias is the result & produce inflammation & weepy skin. - also less aerated & sweating skin folds , have Few odor causing bacterias which give smell to the skin folds. Treatment consists of - - Antibiotics /anti fungals & anti inflammatory drugs orally - sugar control by taking proper dose of anti diabetic drugs/ dietary precautions. - Keeping the skin folds clean/dry., dusting antibacterial/anti fungal powder -Use of deodorants to combat smell/ bathing twice a day. - Reduction of weight ( for long run benefit.) It's advisable to consult a diabetologist /skin specialist for specific advice. Thanks.
