What Causes Sore On Lip Filled With Pus?

My question is for my husband. He is a very healthy 47 yr old. He has a history of getting cold sores when he eats tomatoes. He figures he is allergic to them and tries to stay away from them. But this has made him very familiar with cold sores. About a month ago he started getting a sore by his lip. He figured it was a cold sore coming on. But he kept saying that it didn t feel like one. After a few days it filled with pus, which he popped and cleaned up. It scabbed over after a couple of days. And then the process starts all over. It will fill with pus again. He does not have a history of any kind of acne or. Anything like that. It is just really bothering him and we have no idea what this could be. The bump seems to be getting bigger every time. Do you have any ideas of what this could be?

Hello,

I can understand your concern. The swelling your husband is experiencing might be a cyst. Cyst is a fluid filled swelling that is usually painless and if it ruptures, it has tendency to grow back as its lining is usually left in the body when it ruptures.

I would advise you to visit an oral surgeon and get the swelling examined before rupturing it this time. The doctor can remove is by a minor surgery along with its lining so that it does not recur.

I hope this answer helps you. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. Let me know if you have follow up questions.

Best,
