What Causes Sore Throat Along With Difficulty In Swallowing Food?

I am 25 years old and have had problems with my throat for about 4 or 5 years. Sore throat, hard to swallow food or liquid, and hard to breath at times. I have had an upper GI done and the results were clear. The doctor s I ve seen say its acid reflux but none of the test results state that, could it be my tonsils? And if so, should I get them removed?

Hi,

Noted your history about having sore throat for 4 to 5 years, hard to swallow foods and fluids, hard to breath at times, Upper GI Endoscopy done but normal, Doctors say about GERD and none of the tests show so. Since you are suffering from throat problem for such a long time, it is worth consulting an ENT Surgeon for proper clinical evaluation, examination, ENT Endoscopy, required further investigations like CT scan or so.

Most of the times, such problems are related to the inflammation of the muscles and bones like hyoid and thyroid cartilage may be due to internal granular pharyngitis. Can be added on local reaction to certain foods, beverages, smoke, fumes, pollution in any form and so on. Only a keen observation can tell us about the proper cause.

Also go for throat swab. CT scan of sinuses as postnasal drip and infection can be the chronic source of infection of throat. X-ray of the chest. Tests of blood and so. All these will probably give a proper diagnosis and thus allow a specific treatment.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
