What Causes Sore Throat And Cough With Ear Discomforts After Key Hole Surgery For Hernia?
I had a bi-lateral hernea key-hole operation two years ago under general anaesthetic. After the op my throat was very sore and I suffered from a constant cough for months. The cough was the last thing I needed whilst recovering through post op! My throat fealt scratched in some way or as though there was a flap floating about which would sometimes stop me from speaking for a second. This seems to have lessened now but worried me at the time. The cough was so intense at times that I once heard a crack in my right ear and have had dull pain in my right temporal area, above and in front of my ear ever since. I attended ENT but the camera showed nothing untoward aparently though I thought the problem was further down than the area which was examined. The cough has mellowed into a mucus issue yet still exists. My GP thought that it would subside and has since retired...the temporal discomfort is still there and I have retained squelching in my ears when I swallow or chew! I am almost constantly troubled by having to clear my throat due to the mucus build up particularly when prostrate. Is this manifestation coincidental or could damage have been done during my operation? Irrespective of the cause; how do I resolve these residual effects?
Probably u have some chronic laryngitis with a chance of vocal cord damage during intubation while anesthetising in your HErniorraphy operation. Your throat and larynx need to be checked thoroughly and please consult an ENT endoscopic surgeon for the laryngeal endoscopy.
