Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 6 year grandaughter has a slight sore throat, with small white patches at the back of her throat and redening as well, she has a low grade fever of 99.2 after motrin is given. Her tongue is partially coated white. She is active and doesn't seem to be sleepy. She went to doctor (fast track)earlier in the week and mom was told that she had "Hand-mouth" infection no prescription was prescribed. Her symptoms presented 4 days ago. How long before we seek further care! Her older brother had his tonsils and adnoids removed at age 2. This is the first episode of this kind since her birth, other than a seasonal cold she is very active and spirited child.
Hello. Thank you for your question. Hand foot and mouth disease could be the cause, in which case it could take 7-10 days to resolve. However, strep throat could also be the cause, in which case antibiotic will be needed. If the fast track didn't test her for this, I recommend consulting with your doctor to get her tested.
