My son just turned 21. He's at college and called to tell me he woke Saturday and his testicles were 'sore'. No swelling, no visible changes, no frequency of urination, no pain while urinating, no discoloration in urine...He says its uncomfortable to walk. He does not wear tight jeans. Any ideas what this might be?

Soreness in the testis without visible swelling could be the following reasons:1) Varicocoele - this is dilatation of the veins in the testis that may cause pain. This is diagnosed by a physical examination by a trained health personnel and scrotal ultrasound with doppler. 2) Excessive ejaculation - excessive ejaculation would cause soreness in the testis. This is usually self limiting. Abstinence from ejaculation from 5-7 days would help recover the testis. If symptoms persists he should see a urologist.
