What Causes Soreness In The Eyes After Using Steroid Drops?

My 11 year old son has large, inflamed red blood vessels on the back of his throat and on his tonsils. There are no other red spots and no white spots. He has no fever, chills, coughing, sneezing, or any other symptom other than the blood vessels. What could this be?

It appears to be tonsillitis and there is no indication of steroid. Simply antibiotic like erythromycin 250 mg daily for 5days. warm saline gurgling and anti histamine tablet like levocetrizine 25omg daily for 5days.
