Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am taking Lyrica for post herpetic neuralgia. I am a runner who runs daily but I am finding that since taking Lyrica I am struggling to run my usual daily distance (6-10 km) or my long run (15 - 20 km) The problem is a soreness about the knees and a tighness/tireness in my calves and quads. Is this most likely from the medication and would I be just as well off taking a geeral over the counter pain killer Panadol or such seeing Ifind very little benefit from Lyrica. Thanks

Soreness in the knee can be due to overuse injury. That means due to more of running, jumping standing, stair climbing activity or unusual twist of knee joint also can cause Soreness of knee. And this can not be due to lyric the medication you are having. As well if I have any patient like this then instead of giving him pain killer and temporary solution. I will help patient to increase the strength of soft tissue with more of quadriceps, hamstring exercise and also medial and lateral thigh muscle exercise to manage the knee muscle power. As well I will suggest the person before the run always do proper warm up with stretches and in the end use cold pack for a cooling down effect along with the stretches again. Here I am not aspecting any major issue with knee since you have told that you are already able to run more then 3km. So just follow the things as I see plain as well you can also visit sports physio to have detail programming.
