What Causes Sores Cracks In The Corner Of Mouth?

Sometimes the corner of my mouth gets red , cracked and swollen and I don t know why. Also , recently the outer corner of my right eye will get a small red bump or two. I have been using triple antibiotic ointment and witch hazel and coconut oil with no improvement.

Hi!! There are many causes of cracks and sores in the angle of the mouth. The most commonly encountered are bacterial or candida infection, deficiency of folic acid, iron and vitamins and diabetes. The area should be swabbed for staphylococcal and fungal infection and also fasting blood sugar should be tested. Since you are not having any benefit after using antibiotic ointment you should go for antifungal cream like miconazole and also take supplements containing vitamins. This will surely help you.
