What Causes Sounds In Ears After Treating Shingles

Hello, some years ago I contacted shingles and when it was over I was left with a noise in my ears, like having a sea shell over my ears. It is constant and doesn t prevent me from hearing, but in the silence of the night it seems louder. What is this called and how can it be treated? Thank you Doctor!

ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hi,
Welcome to healthcare magic.
I had gone through your question.
I can understand your concern.
This could be tinnitus.
I recommend the following.
1) A through evaluation of ear nose and throat.
2) Pure tone audiometry to rule out any hearing loss. This abnormal sound could be associated with hearing loss. In such cases using hearing aid could help.
3) Ginkobelloba could be helpful.
4) Masking devices. Worn in the ear and similar to hearing aids, these devices produce a continuous, low-level white noise that suppresses tinnitus symptoms.
Hope I have answered your question.
If you have any questions, I am happy to help.
Wish you a good health.
Regards,
Dr Paparaja S MBBS MS
