Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Spots On Tongue Of A Child While Having Dermatomyositis?
My 3 year old daughter has been diagonsed with dermatomyosis and is under the care of a pediatric rhuemetologist. Tonight, we noticed spots on her tongue - I know these disease can present ulcers in the mouth - how do I know if this is an ulcer related to her condition?
I can understand your concern. As your daughter is suffering from Dermatomyositis, chances are more that the spots you have found are related to this condition only.
To differentiate them from other ulcers, while other kids of oral ulcers are very painful, the ulcers associated with dermatomyositis are not painful. However, some cases present with painful ulcers, too. They are more like the spots and not ulcers and I assume that is what you have observed.
However, it is better to get it confirmed by the treating doctor rather than deciding for yourself as doctors are the experts in identifying one type of lesions from others based on their appearance.
I hope this information helps you. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. Take care.
