What Causes Spotting At 47 Years Age?

Hello: I m 47 years old with hx of endometriosis, fibroids and infertility. Last menstrual period four months ago and have been spotting for about three weeks. What could be causing spotting? Menopause, endo, fibroids, cancer??? very concerned. have gyn appt this week

Hello,
Thanks for letting us know your health concern. Considering your age, it is more likely that your symptoms can be related to perimenopause. Yet, I would ask you to have a proper assessment along with a trans-vaginal/pelvic sonogram, hormone assay, blood counts and urinalysis. Styptics should be used to control the spotting along with a course of progestogen. Once stabilized, you can get a pap smear. Further management can be planned accordingly. Wish you good health.
