What Causes Spotting During Early Pregnancy And Any Need To Take Utrogestan?
Hi, I m 6 weeks pregnant and I have spotting (pink and most of the time brown to light brown) on and off the last 2 weeks. I went to see a gyn that did an ultrasound only and said she couldn t detect a heartbeat, the placenta was left and low and on the right was a cyst (didn t mention if it s on ovary or uterus...). She said it might be a pregnancy cyst. she didn t ask me to do any tests but prescribed Utrogestan 200mg and to come back in ten days to see if the fetus has grown and spotting stopped. I didn t take Utrogestan because I m not convinced I need it if she couldn t give me any tests to do and didn t tell me what is causing the spotting. I also have some lower back pain time to time. No cramping. I m feel tired most of the time and have no appetite. please tell me what could cause the spotting and if I need to take utorgestan or do some lab tests. Thank u in advance. Lamy
I think you should wait for a repeat ultrasound after a week of your previous one. Usually a heart beat is seen at 7 weeks of gestation,so ,if everything is fine ,you should be able to detect an heart beat at that time. Mild spotting is common in early pregnancy,as also tiredness and loss of appetite. So just do a repeat scan and decide on further medications. Utrogestan or progesterone pessary is sometimes used in cases of threatened abortion. But ,it would be better to start it after a repeat scan. Please continue your folic acid tablets till then.
Hope this helps.
