What Causes Spotting Post Unprotected Sex Despite Being On Birth Control Pills?

..I m 23 years old, on the 11th I had unprotected sex a few times and 1 of the 3 he didn t pull out. Afterwards when I went to the bathroom, there was a very light reddish pinkish color when I wiped. I m on the pill but don t take them at the same exact time every day. On the 13th I had some cramping and bleeding, that had lasted now 10days. It was a reddish brownish color and if it was my period it was a week early. I was on my 3rd week of pills so I was confused as to why I d start that early, could I be pregnant?

Hello,

I can understand your concern. Taking contraceptive pills regularly and maintaining the 24 hours gap between pills is necessary for achieving complete protection from pregnancy. The bleeding that you are having might be the bleeding that occurs after conceiving.

As one week has passed from the unprotected sexual intercourse, you should take a home pregnancy test to rule out pregnancy as a reason for early periods. Sometimes too much stress can alter menstrual cycles too.

If these irregular cycles continue into next month in absence of pregnancy, you should visit a gynecologist for physical examination and further investigations.

I hope this information helps you. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. Take care.

Best,
Dr. Viraj Shah
