What Causes Spotting?

Hello I have been diagnosed with PCOS and I have been on Metformin for about 6 months. Since then I ve been having regular menstrual cycles. My last cycle started on 07/07 and ended on 07/13, it s been 12 days since and now I have a brown discharge... should I be concern? What could this be?

Hello,
I have gone through your query and understood the concern. During mid-cycle, at the time of ovulation, fresh blood is sometimes discharged. Brownish discoloration is suggestive of altered blood. This can happen if the blood is retained for a long time in the uterine cavity. If you have been following the basal body temperature chart, ovulation is indicated by a rise in the temperature which is persistent if conception occurs. Else, this discharge could be due to a breakthrough bleed as a result of hormone imbalance. Clinical evaluation is needed to clarify. Hope this helps.
