What Causes Stiff Fingers In Morning With Swollen And Crooked Thumbs?

i woke this morning with severe feeling of stiff fingers, when attempting to open my fingers especially thumbs they felt like a pop, all day the thumbs , right more than left have been very swollen and crooked, only discomfort I feel is if I try and bend them quickly. What could this be ?
