Women are more susceptible to pelvic infections during the menstrual period as the efficiency of local protective mechanisms will decrease and also as blood is a good culture medium for the infecting organisms. Having unprotected intercourse during menstrual period will increase the possibility of pelvic infection. According to your history there is a possibility for pelvic infection.
If the abdominal pain and feeling of sickness persist, better to get evaluated. Please consult your gynecologist once, get examined and undergo investigations like pap smear, vaginal swab for culture and sensitivity. According to the reports treatment can be planned. Both the partners should be treated simultaneously to prevent future cross infections.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
